From dragons to tailor-made suits, Hong Kong has something to do every day of the month.
- view the city skyline at sunset from the Esplanade (near Star Ferry, TST)
- check out the harbour view from The Peak after dark
- ride the Star Ferry or travel on the open air decks (deluxe class) on the Lamma & Lantau Island ferries
- hike the Dragon’s Back near Shek O (HK Island)
- ride the trams late at night through Wan Chai after it has been raining
- take tiffins (afternoon tea and cakes) at The Peninsula or The Verandah Restaurant near Aberdeen
- spot an interesting sign which says something like:
“Danger! keep clean” (seen in Ma On Shan)
“Rehipraghaiswihi Oneself” (seen on a pair of Chinese-made jeans – if you can’t figure it out you probably don’t fit the legend)
“Please keep these toilets clean. Use the rubbish bin” (seen in Central) - get a suit/dress tailor-made
- check out the view from the Sky Lobby of Central Plaza (Wan Chai)
- haggle with shopkeepers at the markets (Stanley, Mongkok’s Fai Yuen St, Temple St)

- visit the HK Convention and Entertainment Centre – site of the The 1997 Handover Ceremony
- eat a curry at one of the many hidden Indian restaurants in the infamous (but safe enough) Chungking Mansions (Nathan Rd, TST)
- grab a drink from one of Hong Kong’s ubiquitous juice bars
- meet a local who can help you find a meal somewhere truly authentic
- have your face turned into a page of stickers at a photo-booth
- visit the loos-with-the-ultimate-view at Felix, 28th floor of The Peninsula
- try hot’n’sour Szchuanese soup or Cantonese dim sum
- check out the bird life as you stroll through the coastal mangroves on the floating boardwalk in the Mai Po Nature Reserve
- go to the Science Museum in TST East
- take a ride in a junk or sampan from the Aberdeen waterfront or Sai Kung esplanade
- watch the firing of the Noon Day Gun in Causeway Bay (for Noel Coward fans)
- ride the 1.5km gondola above the cliffs to Ocean Park
- take the No.9 bus from Shau Kei Wan to Skek O for a relaxing swim at the beach followed by a delicious Thai dinner at one of the many open air restaurants
- watch the sunset from High West, the peak next to The Peak
- if you get fed up with the noise and grime and you wish you had gone to Singapore instead, catch the hi-speed ferry to the planned community of Discovery Bay (just east of the Star Ferry Terminal in Central) where life is clean and sweet-smelling
- take a daytrip to Macau (1 hour on the hi-speed ferry; take your passport); explore 500 years of colonial history and eat roast chicken and fat chips at Fernando's on Hac Sa Beach
- go across the border for dinner in Shenzhen, undoubtedly the ugliest face of capitalism around (you can get a Shenzhen visa at the Lo Wu border for about $100; this city of 2m was a farming village 15 years ago) – at least you can say you’ve been to China
