What happens at Island City Church meetings?
Our meetings generally have four facets;
- the study of God's Word, the Bible
- communion/worship
- prayer and
- fellowship
Word
We believe that the Bible is nothing less than the infallible Word of God. It is life's instruction manual, written by the Designer Himself. To the best of our ability we aim to base our entire lives on the standard of God's Word.
Our devotion to God's Word is not based on a mere desire for knowledge, but on a thirst for life. Jesus said that He came in order that we might have life and have it "more abundantly" (John 10:10). In the Word of God we find that Jesus alone takes the deepest questions of humanity and offers Himself as an emphatic answer. For those who are unsure of where they are headed in life, Jesus says, with all the confidence of one who never took a wrong turn, "I am the way. Follow me!" Everything we need to live meaningful lives has already been given to us in the form of the "very great and precious promises" contained in His Word (2 Peter 1:4). In the study of God's Word we find some of our deepest needs met - our needs for wonder, truth, meaning, hope, and a way back to the Author of Life.

Communion / worship
The first and greatest commandment Jesus gave us is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37). Worship is central to our knowledge and experience of God. As such, we seek to lift Him up in our hearts with all the passion in us. Everything that happens at Island City Church is for His glory alone.
We don’t have too many traditions at ICC, but one which we honour regularly is communion (taking the bread and wine). Communion reminds us of the death of Jesus on the cross, the pivotal moment in the Christian faith. We take communion at church, in our homes, even on top of Lion Rock!
Prayer
Prayer is having a conversation with God. Prayer can take many forms, but the most important thing is that prayer must be honest. God has more time for the hesitant words of humble heart than the religious prattling of an inflated ego (see Luke 18:9-14). As a New Testament church we are a praying church (Colossians 4:2). We believe that, through Jesus’ sacrifice, everyone can come boldly to the throne of grace to find mercy and help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Fellowship
Jesus had no time for people who had no time for people. Wherever Jesus went He was the life of the party! Unlike those who follow a monastic lifestyle and turn their backs on the messiness of people issues, we aspire to be like the One whose love for others knew no bounds. Developing friendships that can weather life's roughest storms is an integral part of church life. More than that, we aspire to nurture a sense of community that celebrates our cultural and ethnic differences in a God-honouring way. No programme or function will pre-empt the importance of real friendship at Island City Church.
