Vision & Values
Our vision and values
Our Great Hope
"Our Father, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is heaven" (Matt 6:10).
We anticipate nothing less than a totally transformed world where His righteousness and peace reign and every tribe worships the Living God.
Our Blue Print
It is in our heart to see the New Testament pattern of worship, government, ministry, and structure developed not only here, but in the churches of every town, city, and nation of the world.
Our Specific Vision
We aim to build a strong, local church in Hong Kong that will:
- Truly know and enjoy God
- Truly rely upon the Holy Spirit for direction, power, revelation, and impartation (gifts, signs, wonders, etc.)
- Know both the scriptures and the power of God (Matt 22:29).
- See true, biblical worship restored in each person's life.
- See each of our people, each and every day, growing to be more like Jesus.
- See each person's God-given talents and gifts "fanned into flame" (2 Tim 1:6) and used for the glory of God.
- Live in covenantal relationship with one another, working through our problems and misunderstandings in a Christ-glorifying way.
- See each person equipped for evangelism, and to bear witness of Christ Jesus.
- Bring all of the people into all of God's principles and ways, resulting in faithful stewardship, Biblical prosperity, and gracious liberty.
- Demonstrate our love for Jesus, and His love for the world in practical ways such as meeting the needs of the poor and visiting and praying for the sick and those in need.
- Take advantage of the ethnic diversity within Hong Kong to build a church that breaks down cultural walls. To this end we seek to be a community that welcomes and includes people from all nationalities and ethnic groups.
- Be an expression of the life and Kingdom of God that touches all aspects and levels of our society. Our only prejudice is that Christ alone is the hope for humanity. We believe that Jesus is the only Person who takes the deepest questions of humanity and offers Himself as an emphatic answer.
Our Core Values
- Intimacy
We are not a programme-oriented church. Our primary agenda is to "abide in the Vine", to nurture our personal relationships with the Lord and to live in a manner pleasing to Him (Jn 15); everything we do stands on this foundation (Is 28:16) - Integrity
Truthfulness at every level of life (Ps 101:6) - Transparency
No hidden or secret agendas, staying free from offense - Reality
At every level of life:- avoiding false spirituality
- avoiding exaggerations and overstating things
- avoiding professionalism while pursuing excellence
- Humility
- acknowledging our utter dependence on the Holy Spirit for His guidance
- not taking God's glory for ourselves - pursuing His kingdom rather than our own empires/dynasties (Jdgs 8:22-3)
- putting the needs of others first
- Loyalty
- to truth, before traditions or movements (Mk 7:8)
- to leaders (Heb 13:17)
- to each other (Gal 5:13)
- Flexibility
Recognising that we're not perfect and having a willingness to change (Lk 5:37) - Creativity
To utilize the arts (music, drama, art, etc.) for the glory of God and to see excellence increasingly developed in this area - Reconciliation
Living as ambassadors for Christ declaring a message of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18-20) - Grace
- enjoying the unforced rhythms of His grace; living free from condemnation
- we embrace liberty, not legalism (Titus 2:11-14)
- Radical converts
- seeing lives transformed powerfully through Christ, and not just reciting a "sinner's prayer"
- equipping a radical new generation of believers who will aggressively invade the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit
- Priesthood of all believers
We reject the unbiblical concept of a clergy/laity distinction (1 Pet 2:9, Heb 7); we encourage each person to find their function and place within the Body of Christ. - Life of faith
- utter dependence on God (Ps 34:19,Matt 7:24)
- living as if He really is King of our lives
- producing good "fruit" as evidence of our changed lives (Mt 3:8)
- Sacrifice
- making the outworking of His kingdom reign our number one priority in life (Matt 6:33)
- cheerfully giving of our time and resources to see the church established
- leadership (of self, families, etc.) based on the servant model (Matt 20:26)
- Prayer
Setting aside regular times to pray, sometimes accompanied with fasting. - Praise and worship
Teaching a lifestyle of glorifying the Lord, both individually and corporately as a church. - Responsibility
- exercising self-control in every area of our lives
- accepting the consequences of our actions and inactions (Gal 6:7)
- using our freedoms to serve others in the place that God has put us (Gal 5:13)
- Maturity
- seeking God's will rather than looking at circumstances (Heb 11:1)
- not given to rash decisions (bounced "to and fro with every wind and doctrine" (Eph 4:14))
- volunteers, not conscripts (Ps 110:3); overcomers, not quitters (Rev 21:7)
- Eternity perspective
Evaluating the quality of our decisions by:- examining our motives ("His glory or mine?"),
- following the Biblical pattern, and,
- by acting in His strength (Col 1:29).
- Not neglecting to meet together regularly
(Heb 10:25, Acts 2:42) we meet around:- the Word of God
- the throne room, in prayer
- Jesus, in communion
- each other, in fellowship.
